Happy Independence Day weekend!
In the spirit of celebrating the 245th birthday of our nation…I’ll keep this short and sweet.
Take a deep breath…be mindful of the beautiful moments in your life…even if they’re brief.
If the pandemic has shown us anything…it’s that we shouldn’t take life for granted.
And in honor of the organization that gave me hope (and a much happier life) for decades now, here’s a quote from the Big Book of Alcoholics Anonymous (modified slightly for climate folks):
Each day, somewhere in the world, recovery begins when one climate optimist talks with another climate optimist, sharing experience, strength, and hope.
Enjoy a relaxing, restful, and hopeful weekend!
The Line
Joel Makower, Chairman and Co-Founder of the GreenBiz Group (one of my favorite go-to websites for climate news…good and bad), wrote this piece on the “sudden awakening” of corporations to the need for sustainable practices, what he calls the sustainability imperative imperative.
As he puts it:
“Ladies and gents, welcome to the Sustainability Imperative era, where environmental (and, sometimes, social) leadership is widely seen as requisite to competitiveness and long-term viability.”
So if you’re in for a dose of positive news about the emerging sustainability mindset of corporations, Makower’s piece is a great (and welcome) read.
The Sinker
I don’t want y’all to think that I am sticking my head in the sand:
the beach-eroding, landslide-causing, infrastructure-damaging hurricane off the coast of western Mexico
the hurricane that bashed Barbados and is on its way to Florida
By now most of us already know “the planet is on f$%^&*$ fire,” as Bill Nye puts it.
We know we need to take action…and we are.
It might not be as fast as Greta hoped it would be…but it’s about progress…not perfection.
Le Fin
Leslie Gore can make any day a good day.
And if you don’t believe that unexpected good can happen…seemingly randomly…Texas, a state known for its oil fields, is being overtaken by…sunflowers.
If that’s not sunshine, lollipops, and rainbows, I don’t know what is!
Hope you get to spend your weekend with your favorite lollipop.
Sunshine, lollipops and rainbows
Everything that's wonderful is sure to come your way
